We had a great time at the March 1st Seed Swap – check back for more seed sharing events!
Got seeds? Let’s share them! Join the Hammonton Green Committee and the Greater Hammonton Permaculture Club to swap seeds on March 1.
We’ll all grow more plants and more food, and we’ll grow our community connections too.
Seed catalogs and store displays can be so alluring! Sometimes we end up with more than we need. Or maybe you save seeds from things you grow and have a lot of extra seeds.
A Seed Swap is a great way to try growing new varieties of veggies, flowers or herbs and making sure your “extras” get a chance to become next year’s favorites for someone else.
HOW WILL THIS WORK?
Bring your packets of seeds for sharing to the Seed Swap on Wednesday, March 1, 7 pm at the Hammonton Canoe Club, at the Hammonton Lake Park (100 Sports Drive, Hammonton, NJ 08037).
HOW DO I PREPARE MY SEEDS FOR SHARING?
Prior to the Swap, you’ll need to package up your seeds and label them clearly with the plant type and variety if you can. If you’re not 100% sure about this, include as much info as you can when you submit your seeds with the form (ex: small red pepper, mildly spicy)
Seed packets should contain a minimum of 5-10 seeds – more is fine!
These little “coin envelopes” work great (email if you need some!), but you can use any other small envelope or bag – recycle some paper to make your own. Just fold and tape to be sure they don’t spill out!

HOW WILL THIS WORK AT THE SWAP?
Bring your seeds, we’ll put seeds out on tables and everyone will have a chance to circle around, talk to the growers and sharers. It’s a relaxed evening with time to learn about the plants and thier habits.
I DON’T HAVE ANY SEEDS TO SHARE (YET). CAN I STILL PARTICIPATE?
Yes – this swap is all about sharing an abundance. Gardeners sharing seeds get ‘first pick’ but we welcome you to join us! Many people have “extra” to give out.
This is also the perfect time to order free seeds for pickup from Hammonton’s Seed Library.
You can select up to a dozen different types of seeds, all for free! Pick them out from the Mobile Library at the swap, or order online for pickup at locations across Hammonton. The list of available seeds continues to grow. Get yours now!
